What is ISA and VBS?
The law has changed and from July 2010 anyone working or volunteering with vulnerable people, such as those in prison, can register with the ISA. More importantly by November 2010 anyone working or volunteering with vulnerable people must be registered – from then on in it will be illegal to take on new people who are not ISA registered. This new scheme is called the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) and ISA has been established to implement the scheme and make decisions over who should be barred from working with vulnerable people.
